Darren Aronofsky’s Noah picked up by Paramount

After the success of Black Swan, it was only a matter of time before Darren Aronofsky was able to make his passion project. Paramount will be teaming up with New Regency to pay the $150 million budget for Noah. Aronofksy has been talking about the project for years in interviews. The only worry here is that problem some filmmakers seem to have where they go a bit overboard when people throw money at them after an earlier commercial success, but a biblical epic isn’t exactly something that sponsors won’t check in on.

Aronofsky says that he wants the movie to focus less on the religious aspect of the tale and more on the event itself. This is a really interesting take on it, since the story is pretty interesting. I’m a godless Jew and still had a Noah’s Ark playset as a kid (for the animals, of course), so the appeal is pretty wide. I’m imagining some sort of very well-done disaster movie here. This could be pretty cool.
