DC’s Black Lightning coming to TV, but not on The CW

As we’ve reiterated many times in the past, what WB/DC can’t seem to do in their films they’ve been excelling at on TV. One major player has been producer Greg Berlanti, who pretty much reinvented DC on TV with Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. Now it’s no surprise that yet another project of his is heating up.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Berlanti has been working with Salim and Mara Brock Akil (who’ve had major success on BET with The Game) on a Black Lightning TV pilot. The hour long show will focus on DC’s Jefferson Pierce, who had given up his Black Lightning identity until his daughter’s own superhero antics pull him back. What’s neat is Fox is currently interested and is backing the show, should it get picked up.

It might suck that this show will be away from its CW counterparts, but maybe this’ll mean the show can branch out into its own thing. There’s plenty to work with, and it’s not like Black Lightning would have hero competition at Fox. It’s just a shame that the network isn’t known for being receptive to weird ideas.

RIP, Almost Human.
