Dead-eyed Funko figures to get their own film from Warner Bros

0

Deadline has reported that Warner Bros has optioned the rights to produce a film based on the Funko brand, the collectible lineup of vinyl figures based on basically every IP imaginable with a dead-eyed stare. Rumored to be happening earlier this year, Warner Animation Group will now officially be developing and producing the film with Lloyd Taylor set to pen the script. The deal comes from Warner’s working relationship with Funko, which has produced several figures based on WB films such as Batman and Harry Potter.

Allison Abbate, executive VP of Warner Animation, said in a statement, “Their [Funko] fresh take on pop culture make these figurines incredibly appealing to fans of all ages.” Funko CEO Brian Mariotti added, “We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to making an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.”

If this movie proves successful (which it likely will), we may end up seeing original Funko characters. Imagine a Funko Pop Funko Pop…I think my mind just imploded.
