If someone were going to sell me a sex robot, I’d hope it would be Dean Cain. Like any good Silicon Valley entrepreneur, he has a palpably greasy smarminess, but you kind of like it.
That’s sort of how I feel about all of 2050 from this trailer. It’s running on the well-trodden quandary of where the line between human and machine falls and the nature of the human soul–but with boobs! Like Dean Cain in a tuxedo shilling a “companion” droid, it’s only making the barest attempt to cover up and elevate what it’s really selling here.
The story follows a married video game developer as he’s introduced to a warehouse that sells custom sex androids created by Dean Cain. It looks kind of interesting and like a solid concept for a smaller production. Will it turn out to be Exxx Machina? We’ll have to wait to find out.
But the wait won’t be too long for New Yorkers as 2050 will premier there on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019. Be sure to bring a date.
