Deathly Hallows breaks Harry Potter weekend debut record

But fails to do much in terms of actual ticket sales numbers by comparison. Such is the world we live in these days. With ticket prices continuing to rise each year quick than probably any other commodity on the planet, and 3D and IMAX tickets also bringing in extra cash for each ticket, it’s no surprise that many 2010 films will easily beat out 2009 in revenue.

Despite the first part of Deathly Hallows bringing in 125.1 million in sales over the weekend — which beats Goblet of Fire‘s 102.7 million in a 2005 opening weekend — the overall number of opening weekend tickets didn’t even surpass Sorceror’s Stone! It couldn’t even beat Twilight: New Moon (142.8 million) in opening weekend numbers, which is probably more of a case of me underestimating the Twilight series.

Some can look at this as disastrous and others can boast that even after seven movies it’s still relevant and popular, but I’m somewhere in the middle. I really enjoyed Half-Blood Prince, but didn’t like Deathly Hallows: Part 1 much, so I’m just ready to get this series over with already.
