Del Toro’s Pacific Rim gets pushed to July 2013

2013 is going to be one baller of a summer. Not only will we have a plethora of franchises returning like Iron Man, Superman and Star Trek, but an original concept from one of the most original directors around. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim was originally planned to open up the summer with a May release, but either it’s got too much work yet to be done or it’s looking really good because Warner Bros. has pushed it into a very crowded July. July 12 to be exact.

It’s possible the studio has a lot of confidence in the Del Toro’s ability to deliver giant creatures and giant robots in a big awesome way, but as an untested brand it’s going to have steep competition against the likes of The Wolverine and (shudder) Grown Ups 2. I guess we can all just hope that Grown Ups 2 isn’t a hit and this is so that I can go back to believing in humanity.
