When we first reported on the new Digimon reboot series, I was over the moon. The first three episodes 100% did not disappoint, serving as a modern and loose adaptation of the Digimon movie. Since the pandemic has started, Digimon Adventure: 2020 has been something I looked forward to watching every week this month, now we have some bad news to share regarding the rest of the series. Toei Animation made the sad announcement that Digimon Adventure: 2020 would officially be on hiatus because of COVID-19. Therefore, no new episodes will be aired in Japan or via any streaming services such as Crunchyroll. We have no idea when the series will resume but the animation studio is putting its staff safety first.

I do agree with their decision and I am thankful for the first three episodes that did premiere because it is truly a breath of fresh air for the series. The new look and feel plus the different direction it seems to be taking make Digimon relevant again. In an era where so much of the entertainment industry has had to pause on their projects, this was something I was hoping would not be affected. There is wide speculation that it could resume possibly this summer. Japan is still currently under a state of emergency because of the virus. Until Digimon Adventure: 2020 does return, feel free to check out the first three episodes if you haven’t already or re-watch the old shows!
Thank you, Toei for the brief glimpse into the new future of this beloved series and I can’t wait until your return. Stay safe Digimon fans!
