Director of Rampage adapation starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson promises emotion, scares

In case you forgot (why would you remember?), an adaptation of Rampage has been in the works for years. The film seems to have some actual legs on it now that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is attached to star with San Andreas director Brad Peyton at the helm. We still have no idea what the script might involve since the plot of 1986 arcade game is practically non-existent: King Kong, Godzilla, and a giant werewolf destroy cities and eat people while fighting the military. Though, come to think of it, what more do you need?

In an interview with We Got This Covered, Peyton recently gave an indication of what a cinematic Rampage might entail:

With Rampage, we are using our love of the original game as our inspiration. Then we’re going to build a movie, like San Andreas, that is really going to surprise people in what it delivers. It’s going to be a lot more emotional, a lot scarier and a lot more real than you’d expect. So you look at that original concept about a lab that affects these animals and makes them rampage, and that’s the nugget. If they called me tomorrow to do Call of Duty, I wouldn’t want to play any of the Call of Duty games. I’d have to come up with something that deserves to be its own thing. That’s where a lot of these movies can go wrong.

Peyton also noted that the lizard, ape, and wolf guys will all be in the film, but audiences will have to wait to see where they go with all this. Still no word on if The Rock will portray any of these three monsters, or if he’ll do The People’s Elbow on a building, or if The Rock will sing a swell song.

Are you excited about a Rampage movie? How would you approach this material? Let us know in the comments.
