Dirty Dancing is coming back

Audiences had the time of their lives watching the original Dirty Dancing when it first made its debut in 1987 starring the late handsome Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. In the age of continuous remakes and reboots, this iconic film is too is coming back. The news comes directly from Lionsgate during their latest earnings call. This film defined the 80s and aspiring dancers for years following its release (myself included ).

Since then Dirty Dancing has had a sequel in 2004, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and a tv remake Dirty Dancing in 2017. Both had no returning cast members and both were unremarkable. This one at least brings back the lead star. Grey will not only act but produce as well, which should be interesting. Fans looking for some nostalgia will certainly get it with her involved in the project.

So will it be an exact remake? Will it ruin the beloved memories we have of that original? This is what Lionsgate’s CEO Jon Feltheimer had to say about the project. “It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for, and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the company’s history.

It’s still early for any plot details to be released or even a release date but just knowing it is in the works is exciting enough. Whatever route they take with this remake it will be nice to see how it plays out for an entirely new generation. That famous lift Grey and Swayze performed, made movie history, so this new one better have an epic scene like that!
