Doug Liman to expose audiences to torture

I guess once you’ve made a few action movies, you start reaching for something a little deeper. Doug Liman, the director of Fair Game, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and The Bourne Identity, announced that he will be putting together a documentary about torture. Titled Reckoning With Torture: Memos and Testimonies From the War on Terror, the film will feature user-submitted videos of your average Joe reading documents on the abuse of prisoners obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. Liman claims not to have a political agenda, and just wants to spread awareness about real-life violence and torture.

The film can’t simply be documents being read, so I’m wondering exactly how much Liman plans to show the audience. There are plenty of videos of prisoner violence and execution online, but considering that those are widely regarded as shock videos, I don’t know if he’ll really want to spread any of the more extreme ones. Then again, it would certainly get a reaction out of people.
