By Although Dredd may not have been my favorite film of last year, it was one of the best. Unfortunately it came and went from theaters sad and alone because of stupid reasons (it was a reboot of a sort of unknown property, it was a reboot of a sort of unknown comic book adaptation, it was too damn manly for little weaklings to handle).
So you’ll be glad to hear that Lionsate has announced that Dredd is currently number one in Blu-ray and DVD sales (over 600,000 units sold), and currently leads in digital downloads. Now I’m the last person who asks for a sequel to something, but I definitely want one for Dredd. I want to explore its gritty, emotionless, slow motion world again. Hopefully these sales make up for its poor box office performance and one of those Hollywood big cheeses takes notice.

[via Collider]SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 22, 2013 /CNW/ – The verdict is in and Lionsgate (LGF), a leading global entertainment company, announced today that the home entertainment release of DREDD claimed the number one spot on the DVD sell-through and Blu-ray charts with 650,000 units sold, making it the best-selling new release title of the year. Blu-ray units accounted for nearly 50% of week 1 POS at retail. In addition, the critically acclaimed thriller, starring Karl Urban (Star Trek) as the titular character Judge Dredd , was the top film download for the week, outpacing all other titles in digital sales as well.

Lionsgate recently announced a partnership with Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung to convert select Lionsgate action and thriller titles for the booming 3-D home entertainment market.
