I don’t know whether or not to be incredibly impressed or ridiculously skeptical with the Dynasty Warriors film. On the one hand, this movie seemingly captures the essence of the game series to a tee. On the other hand, it also looks kind of stupid and low-budget. At least this brand new trailer is just as ridiculous as the first one.
While not detailing much of what the plot will be, this trailer gives us a glimpse of the action sequences that Dynasty Warriors will feature and it’s probably the most bonkers trailer I’ve ever seen for a video game film. Much like the series that inspired this, we get to see Guan Yu jump into the air and unleash his musou attack on a group of a few hundred soldiers. Synced to the soundtrack from the games, it looks absolutely perfect.
I mainly am cautious because I really don’t expect much from a modern-day Chinese production. I love Kung Fu and Wuxia films like no other, but the current state of China’s film industry is rather lackluster. You do get some excellent films every once in a while, but the majority of action movies try their best to ape Hollywood productions on a fraction of the budget. Dynasty Warriors looks like it will fit that description to the letter, so I don’t want to expect too much.
At any rate, we only have roughly a month left to find out if the film can pull off its premise well.
