Ender’s Game boycott planned

As I’m sure many of you know Ender’s Game is set to release in November. What everyone may not know is that Orson Scott Card happens to have anti-gay views, more specifically his disapproving of same-sex relations and same-sex marriage. As of right now, there is already a boycott in the works about him and this particular movie.

The LGBT organization, Geeks Out, wants people to skip out on seeing Ender’s Game. According to their website:

Do NOT see this movie! Do not buy a ticket at the theater, do not purchase the DVD, do not watch it on-demand. Ignore all merchandise and toys. However much you may have admired his books, keep your money out of Orson Scott Card’s pockets.

They are basically arguing that supporting this movie adaptation will help Card gain more money to oppose same-sex marriage and gay rights. The organization also plans on having “Skip Ender’s Game” events in Chicago, Dallas, New York, Orlando, Seattle, and Toronto.

It seems that organizations like these tend to forget that Hollywood adapts the work of a person, not the person themselves. I more than highly doubt that the movie makers and Hollywood would incorporate Card’s politics into such a potential movie blockbuster, but that’s just my opinion and optimism.

So far, Summit Entertainment has not commented on the planned boycott. We’ll have to see if this gains any traction in the upcoming months.
