By Purveyors of physical media and classic wuxia films will have reason to rejoice this May. Eureka Entertainment, a UK-based boutique label that recently started US distribution, has announced its lineup of movies for May 2024 and it includes one legendary classic: King Hu’s The Valiant Ones. Coming on both regular Blu-Ray and 4K UHD Blu-Ray, the film will be making the jump to both the UK and US with a swath of special features that go over the history of its legacy and impact on Taiwanese cinema.

As well as that exemplary film, there is also the overlooked A Queen’s Ransom, one of Golden Harvest’s attempts to appeal to the West by including a western star (George Lazenby, in this case), and Ken Takakura’s Abashiri Prison trilogy. It’s a very solid selection of films in a year that is quickly being filled with outstanding 4K releases.
While pre-orders are currently live on Eureka’s website, those will be region-B UK releases. The titles should appear on Amazon US in the coming days if you don’t want to import or don’t have access to a region-free Blu-Ray player. I’ll certainly be grabbing The Valiant Ones.
