F*&% you, Harry Potter, you don’t deserve an Oscar

Warner Bros. has started their Oscar campaign for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2, and you can watch one of their new ads for it above. If you couldn’t tell from my headline, I am opinionated about it. WB is probably going to spend an absurd of money pushing Harry Potter as a serious Best Picture candidate, and it’s going to get a lot of support amongst die-hard Potter fans. I’m a big Potter fan, and you know what? There is absolutely no reason why this movie deserves an Oscar in the slightest. It’s not even the best Harry Potter movie, let alone something to be considered one of the best movies of the year.

And don’t give me that argument that the Academy might want to honor the achievement of the entire series. The Potter series, on film, has ranged from great to mediocre, but they all mostly sit square in the middle of that range. They are solidly entertaining, and I enjoy them a great deal, but if Warner Bros. thinks that the series as a whole, or even this one film, deserves to be amongst the likes of Crash, The King’s Speech, and…uh…Chicago

Hell, I guess it DOES have a good shot.
