Female model is playing David Bowie in a time travel film

A Belgian female model named Hannelore Knuts is playing David Bowie in a film called Dave. (Unrelated: I wouldn’t mind a David Bowie remake of the Kevin Kline film Dave.) For a little comparison, I’ve included the Criterion Collection cover for Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth alongside an official image of Knuts from Dave in the header.

The plot of Dave sounds promising: “The main character of the film travels back in time to stop three lookalikes of David Bowie, at different times.” No word on what the different times will be, though obviously they’ll need to have some Ziggy Stardust stuff. Based on that image of Knuts, they’ll probably do the coked-out Thin White Duke era too. Perhaps we’ll also see Labyrinth Bowie? Berlin Trilogy Bowie? Bowie 2099?

According to Twitch, the directors of Dave — Wim Reygaert, Stephen Dewaele, and David Dewaele — initially approached Tilda Swinton for the role. Reygaert and the Dewaeles are collectively known as DJ Soulwax. They’ve released remixes of Bowie songs under that name, including “Rebel Rebel” and “Heroes.”

Dave is nearly completed and will screen at the Gand International Film Festival in Belgium next month.
