Film sequel to Drive is in the works says James Sallis

Last year we reported on Driven, a sequel novel to Drive by James Sallis. (It may be news to you now that Drive was an adaptation). The sequel takes place seven years later in Phoenix. Our emotionally complex hero is living under an assumed name, Paul West, and is engaged. It’s all an attempt to be a real human being (and a real hero, real human being). After his fiancee is killed by two attackers, stoic badassery in a scorpion jacket ensues.

In an interview over the weekend, Sallis revealed to The Independent that Driven “is in the movie pipeline,” and noted that the powers that be “love the book.”

Everything’s in the preliminary phases, so there’s no guarantee that director Nicolas Winding Refn, screenwriter Hossein Amini, or Ryan Gosling (in hot dog or non-hot dog form) will return. Stay tuned for that.
