First image of Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson in Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse could be a cologne advertisement

We have our first official image out of A24 concerning Robert Eggers’ followup to The Witch, and it confirms everything we already knew! The movie is titled The Lighthouse, will be shot in black-and-white, and will star Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. In the picture below you will see a lighthouse along with Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, all in mesmerizing black-and-white. So, we can’t knock them for false advertising, that’s for sure.

Jokes aside, I think it’s a great looking shot. It’s beautifully framed and conveys a strong sense of desolation. Also, both dudes look super rugged, like the way advertisements tell us men are supposed to look, with calloused hands and dirt in our pours. If only I looked one tenth that manly–why I’d be one tenth of a man!

The Lighthouse, concerning a 19th Century lighthouse keeper in Nova Scotia, will hopefully be a fitting second outing after Eggers created something as masterfully paranoid as The Witch. We’ll find out whenever we get the chance, as The Lighthouse will premier at Cannes during its Directors’ Fortnight with no set release planned beyond that.
