First Independence Day promotional art ups the ante a bit

While we’ve got a ways to go before Independence Day 2 brings us more independence than we can handle the marketing teams are gearing up. Early promotional art for the film was on display at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas and Collider got a snapshot of it.

I have to say, it’s pretty brilliant. Playing off the now iconic image/poster of the White House blowing up,  this image fantastically shows that the aliens are back and they’ve brought a bigger laser beam with them. As the official plot synopsis below suggests, they’re kind of pissed at us for fending off their first attack. Thankfully, with almost the entire cast returning, we can feel safe that a collection of individuals will miraculously save the day… after being motivated by a speech from Bill Pullman.

After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
