First look at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ghost Rider

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. might not be Marvel’s best show running now that the Netflix series have come along, but it’s a solid serial that finally gained its footing last season. Looking to jump off that, and actually add a hero with some brand power, they’re bringing in Ghost Rider this season. Here’s the first official look of actor Gabriel Luna as Ghost Rider.

You may be happy to hear (or terribly upset) that this is not the Nicholas Cage version of Ghost Rider. In fact the show is drawing its inspiration for the flaming-skulled anti-hero from the Marvel NOW comic line in which ditches Johnny Blaze and his iconic motorcycle for a muscle car and a kid named Robbie Reyes. Reyes, unlike Johnny Blaze, did not get his powers from the mystic, but by being gunned down and some drugs interacting with his body in a weird way. That fits far better into Agent‘s slightly more grounded universe.

It does also mean that the show can distance itself from the two movies, which only a select few view favorably. They also pull in a Latino hero and a brand name and that all pulls in hopefully more viewers.

We’ve got no idea how Ghost Rider is going to play into the story line, but after the wrap up of last season we’re guessing he’ll be one of the Inhuman recruits that S.H.I.E.L.D. is going after.
