First official look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel is looking marvelous

Avengers: Infinity War is over and Ant-Man and the Wasp has delivered on its purpose, and so we finally come to Captain Marvel. We’ve had leaks of Brie Larson as the titular character, but EW is in full-on promotion mode and will be dropping the first official looks at the hero throughout the week. The first one is their cover image below, which features Larson in full Captain Marvel get up and some flowing hair that Farah Fawcett would envy. Then there’s nine more from the set, which feature Jude Law, some familiar faces, and Nine Inch Nails t-shirt.

Costume-wise I think it looks great. It’s streamlined, but not awkward. I like that it feels a little clunky like an actual uniform and not spandex — something Marvel has done well throughout their films.

EW also has some plot details, some of which were known, but worth repeating. The movie will take place in the 90s, before any of the MCU went down. Ben Mendelson will be playing the Skrull leader Talos. More importantly, it won’t be an origin story. Carol Danvers will already have her powers and already be working for Space Force Starforce when the movie kicks in. Of course, any first film is going to have to establish things, but we’ve already seen the origin story of a military person getting magic space powers and it didn’t go so well so I’m glad they’ll jump right in.
