First outrageous trailer for Jem and the Holograms

I’ve made it no secret that I’ve been looking forward to Jem and Holograms ever since it was announced (and put in production just a month later), and after the awesome set of images we got the other day. I was really hoping seeing it in motion would be wonderful. Sadly, it didn’t exactly turn out that way.

While the film seems okay (and it’s pretty much the best you can do with a property like this), I don’t dig how grounded this is. It’s gone from something memorable to a film you can pretty much brush off since you got the entire experience in the trailer. I’m hoping it’s just a bad trailer edit, but the lack of original music worries me. Maybe it’ll look better with a different cut? Jem and the Holograms opens October 23rd.
