First photos of Jim Carrey in Mr. Popper’s Penguins

I don’t even remember what the book is about, but Jim Carrey combined with animals has certainly been a formula for success in the past. The five photos below just emerged along with a few hints at what we can expect from Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

Tom Popper (Carrey) is a real estate developer who tears down famous New York landmarks to help make way for simple skyscrapers. This business negativity transfers over to his personal life, and after his wife and family separate from him all that he’s left with is an odd inheritance gift from his father: a penguin.

Using real penguins from the Montreal zoo, the gloves you see in the photos aren’t just for show; the set had to constantly be chilled below 45 degrees for their comfort. With a target release date of August 2011, I’m sure we’ll be seeing a trailer sometime soon. The one thing that has surprised me so far is that John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine, Sex Drive) is attached as one of the writers. It should be interesting to see if this film attempts to reach beyond a family film role or if Morris is just…
