First Poster for The Star Trek Ris… erm, Into Darkness

0

Our first look at Star Trek Into Darkness will be arriving as a nine-minute preview ahead of IMAX showings of The Hobbit, but for now we’ll have to make do with a poster which is ostensibly new, but bears a striking resemblance to a certain other blockbuster from earlier in the year. As we all know, Hollywood isn’t averse to recycling successful ideas and images, but despite the big Starfleet logo, this doesn’t even feel very Trek-y. Why, for one thing, is the black-clad figure in the centre (presumably villain Benedict Cumberbatch, seen wearing a similar coat in leaked set photos) looking out over a relatively unfuturistic vision of London? Couldn’t he find anything worth destroying in space?

I suppose the image fits in with the official synopsis description of the villain as a ‘one man weapon of mass destruction’, but surely there was a way of representing that idea more appropriate to the property? Throw in a spaceship at least! Hopefully the pre-Hobbit preview will offer a clearer idea of what to expect from the movie ahead of its release next year on May 17th.
