First trailer for Goosebumps is in for a scare

I’ve been interested in the Goosebumps movie for some time. When it was first announced, it sounded like a neat but very weird idea. In the film adaptation of R.L. Stine’s popular line of children’s horror novels, Stine (Jack Black) is a writer who tells stories of actual monsters and are accidentally set free by the new kid on the block. Now they’ve got to trap them all in their original books or they’d destroy the town.

If the entire film can keep up the awesomeness of the trailer, we’re in for a treat. Lots of call outs to fans (like the popular “Slappy” from the Night of the Living Dummy trilogy), lots of meta-comedy, and it’s got the right balance of comedy and kid-friendly horror. If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve pinned this as a nostalgic horror mystery a kin to films of the early 90s (a la Monster House)

Goosebumps releases October 16th, right in time for Halloween.
