After Enemy and Nightcrawler, I’ve been really looking forward to what Jake Gyllenhaal would do next. Thankfully the wait looks completely worth it with this first trailer for Southpaw. Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Curtis Jackson, and Rachel McAdams, Southpaw is the story of Billy Hope who’s fallen on some hard times.
After getting suspended, he trains with Whitaker in order to take on the title again. There’s far more going on in this trailer than this little summary provides, so I’d suggest giving it a look. I’m a bit worried since Fuqua mistepped with The Equalizer, but he’s not writing so maybe this’ll be great. Southpaw releases this July.
