Flix for Short: Grounded

Grounded is Kevin Margo’s take on an astronaut’s last moments as he deals with crash landing on an unknown planet. It’s won countless awards, with good reason, and it is currently one of my favorite short films of this season (beating out Taken, With a Real Dad). And man is this film beautiful. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on here, but damn is it pretty looking. The animation and work put into making the landscape look almost dream like is astounding. Work involving “one weekend with a forklift dangling an astronaut 50 feet high in the parking lot” according to Margo.

After watching Grounded, I’m still not sure how seven minutes was enough to make me reflect on my mortality and the repetitious nature of life. I’m just going to sit here and seriously applaud Kevin Margo for making this. If you haven’t watched it already, just watch it. It won’t be a waste of your time.
