Flix for Short: RGB XYZ

RGB XYZ is an animated short film by artist David O’Reilly. It’s about leaving home for the big city, growing up and discovering one’s place in the universe. O’Reilly says that RGB XYZ was a sort of stepping stone for him and that it helped him learn how to animate in a smoother and more polished way, but personally I love the maximalism style that he uses here. It’s reminiscent of old Paper Rad videos and other glitch art.

I also really dig the sound editing going on here. O’Reilly uses mostly pre-programmed computer voices for most of the characters, but he manipulates the audio throughout the piece and it really breaths life into this janky, glitchy, over stimulated world. Check out more of O’Reilly’s work here.
