Flix for Short: “Roland I Feel You” by Get Well Soon

Alejandro Jodorowsky is one of my favorite filmmakers, and someone whose fingerprints are all over my imagination. On a few occasions I’ve expressed admiration for his influential handful of cult films (e.g., the Cult Club piece on Santa Sangre), his unmade adaptation of Dune, and even how his imitators pale by comparison. Jodorowsky, despite his small filmography, is a true titan in the cult film/midnight movie canon.

This music video for Get Well Soon’s “Roland I Feel You” is ripe with Jodorowsky references and wonderfully done. So much of it feels like an amalgam of El Topo and The Holy Mountain, with recreations or riffs on scenes from the two films. Directed by Philipp Kaessbohrer, the music video also has nods to Stephen King’s Dark Tower books, a little dose of Kenneth Anger, and maybe some Valley of Gwangi for good measure.

Get Well Soon is the band of musician/multi-instrumentalist Konstantin Gropper, who hails from Germany. Their newest album, The Scarlet Beast O’Seven Heads / La Bestia Scarlatta Con Sette Teste, comes out in Europe on August 27th.
