Flixist Awards 2010: Best Action Film

It’s a fact: people love explosions. That’s why they keep giving Michael Bay work. He sure knows how to blow things up en masse.

Needless to say, the action genre is full of explosions, along with other things that people love like boobs, kung-fu battles to the death, and balls being put to the veritable wall. This year saw a slew of action films, ranging from great (our nominees) to downright dreadful (Robin Hood and Skyline, for starters).

Given our communal love for the film, it’s no surprise that Inception is on the list, but the rest of our nominees come from every corner of the action genre universe. Comic adaptations Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the Worldeach made the list, as did the star-studded 80’s action movie throwback The Expendables. Rounding out the list are the ne’er-do-well story about cowboys versus ninjas, Warrior’s Way, Disney’s neon-fueled Tron: Legacy, and the Ben Affleck-helmed crime drama The Town.

Which of these films had enough explosions to rank as the first-ever winner of the Flixie for Best Action Film? Find out after the jump!

BBBRRRRMMMMM.

It may not have had as many explosive, breasts, or bulging muscles as a traditional action film, but that didn't stop the dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream that is Inception from blowing our minds and capturing our hearts. It didn't hurt that it had like, half-a-dozen different action sub-genres thrown in. How many movies go from car chase to tension-fueled, gravity-defying hotel sequence to a Call of Duty level in the course of an hour? The grab-bag of eye candy that is virtually every cast member doesn't hurt either.

2010 had it's fair share of movies, but 2011 is shaping up to blow the roof off. While films like Scott Pilgrim and Kick-Ass may have served as a prologue, nothing will prepare us for the coming super hero onslaught. Between films like Green Lantern, Thor, and Captain America, we have a virtual perfect storm that could end in either accolades or bloodshed. Other action films on the horizon that you may well see on the list of 2011 nominees next year include Hanna, Cowboys Vs. Aliens, Battle for Los Angeles

Below you'll see how many votes each movie got, and yes, that one vote for Warrior's Way? That was me.
