Flixist Awards 2010: Best Horror Film

0

I love horror films, can’t get enough of them. It doesn’t matter if they’re good, bad, or really bad, I’ll take on all comers. The real problem is that none of them really scare me. I consider myself a veteran horror buff. It takes a lot to phase me. A couple of this year’s nominees managed to get me on the edge of my seat, waiting for that inevitable scare. One, Paranormal Activity 2, delivered some creepy moments as well as big “BOO!” scares, while The Last Exorcism built up a decent amount of dread all the way up to its unforgettable last few minutes.

The other nominees on the list include the vampire love story remake Let Me In, the boob-a-licious, schlocky Pirahna 3D, and Splice, the story of two hipster scientists who play God and pay the price (whether for being hipsters or playing God is up to you). All these movies had their merits, but only one will take home the honor of being the winner of the first ever Flixist Award for Best Horror Film.

I must say, I'm actually kind of surprised that The Last Exorcism took home the metaphorical gold. Paranormal Activity and Pirahna 3D each doggedly nipped at its heels, but the faux-documentary clearly spooked enough of us for the win. Good for you, Last Exorcism, good for you.

Horror films aren't going away any time soon, and we can only hope 2011's showings merit more than five worthy nominees.
