By Evaluating a film’s soundtrack is tough. On one hand, the music has to be able to stand by itself as a captivating composition, but it also needs to be able to work itself into the overall framework of a movie. The soundtrack shouldn’t tell an audience how to feel, it should augment their own personal reactions and interpretations.
All five of the nominees on this list produced soundtracks that are not just integral to their respective film’s structure, but also stand alone as compelling pieces of music. From the iconic BWWAAAAHH of Inception to the electronic bleeps and bloops of Daft Punk, 2010 was an excellent year for the soundtrack.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross take home the trophy for their brilliantly subtle score of The Social Network. Sometimes, the soundtrack might not be apparent, and then about halfway through a scene you realize that there has been a rhythm pounding in the background, setting the pace of the film and lowering or heightening tensions as needed. From the haunting, gentle opener, "Hand Covers Bruise," this soundtrack continues to dazzle all the way until the very end.
It's worth noting that this was a very close race. The Flixist staff had to endure not one, but two tiebreakers in order to pick one winner. Don't worry, though. There's always next year, eventual sequels to Scott Pilgrim and Inception.
