G.I. Joe Retaliation pushed to 2013 for 3D conversion

Between this and Josh Trank taking on Shadow of the Unadaptable Videogame, today’s news is conspiring to take the wind out of my sails hardcore. Paramount has pushed back the upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation from a late June release to March of 2013 to spend time on converting the film to 3D. It makes sense, from a business perspective. They’ve got a pretty big-budget picture here, a sequel to a financially successful but not well received film based on a Hasbro toy (and Hasbro’s probably not looking too great after Battleship tanked), that doesn’t have the same kind of pull that your Batmans and Avengers do, and despite the good buzz on the trailers, there’s a lot of people out there that just don’t give a s**t about another G.I. Joe movie. So, it’s moved out of a packed summer, and 3D is added to increase box office overseas and domestically. Again, you can blame Battleship‘s failure on a lot of this.

It all makes a certain amount of sense but damn it I wanted to see The Rock and John McClaine shoot the balls off of some dude.
