Gangster Squad schedules reshoots later this month

After the tragic shooting in Aurora last month, a rumor began to circulate that a key moment in Gangster Squad would be reshot. The moment in question: people shooting into the audience through the screen at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. It made for a striking image in the trailer for Gangster Squad, but the studio has decided to delay the release of the film for reshoots, shifting the release date from September 7th to Januray 11th, 2013.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the reshoots on Gangster Squad are scheduled for the week of August 20th. All of the key players in that movie theater scene (Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Robert Patrick, Troy Garity, and Michael Pena) are being assembled for a new sequence that will take place in LA’s Chinatown.

There’s no word on if other parts of Gangster Squad will be altered in order to accommodate this new sequence. It seems unlikely since they’re only doing five days of night shoots.
