Gaspar Noe, the man behind Irreversible and Enter the Void has made a dance movie. With two extremely sexual and horrifying works to his name already, it doesn’t look like he’s prepared to tone it down just yet. And god bless him for it.
The trailer plays it coy with the horror, but there’s certainly more than a suggestion of impending doom behind the revelry. What starts as a dance party builds to an orgy of twisting bodies splayed on the floor like a Satanic rite. If Noe’s track record is to be trusted, there are some serious shocks waiting in store, here.
The plot sees a troupe of dancers leave an unforgettable opening performance and begin an all night celebration, but no one was keeping their eye on the punch bowl, and the sangria gets laced with LSD. Excitement soon bleeds to horror as they all experience a collective meltdown. Cool.
With A24 adding this into its collection with The Witch and Hereditary, I think it’s safe to say they have the market cornered when it comes to the best in satanic arthouse horror films.
Climax is due to release sometime in 2018.
