Gina Carano proves us right, joins female Expendables

You may recall a report that there was a female version of The Expendables in the works. The project now has its first star: Gina Carano. Since putting her MMA career on hold, Carano’s been landing a steady stream of work. There was Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire in 2011 and she’s currently shooting Fast Six and gearing up for the star-vehicle In the Blood. Producer Adi Shankar said the following about Carano’s involvement in the project:

I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of The Expendables without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba.

Note: there is no jamba in the all-fruit smoothies at Jamba Juice. Also, all-jamba smoothies taste like corned beef and cabbage, which is surprisingly not unpleasant.

Carano’s casting proves that we have some form of precognition. She was on our list of top 10 female badasses, a companion to Xander’s list of top 10 future Expendables. Shankar is apparently in contact with other actresses in the action genre, so expect more names in the coming months.
