Guillermo Del Toro working on DC’s Dark Universe

A couple of months ago there was some talk of Guillermo Del Toro developing DC’s Justice League Dark for film, but there really wasn’t any clarification on where the property stood or how far long it was. Well, we can at least say now that Del Toro is officially working on the project, currently titled Dark Universe, and that it is in its infancy stages. Apparently the “perfect writer” has been found, and while the film hasn’t been picked up yet, DC and Warner Bros. are very keen on the adaption, if only to expand on the mythology of their upcoming Justice League universe. Here’s what Del Toro had to say on the subject:

“They were already galvanized to launch Justice League and they were galvanized to make their universe cohesive. What I feel now is that with Superman they feel really, really confident with what they have and they are now feeling they have two pillars – Batman and Superman – for the DC Universe. And tonally, they have a darker tone, a more urban and sophisticated tone, so now they can build on that foundation.”

For those not familiar, the characters of Justice League Dark are pulled from the supernatural corners of the DC universe, including Swamp Thing, Deadman, Etrigan, and Constantine, among others.

I’ve stated before that I’m not particularly familiar with comic book lore, but one series I have read multiple times is Alan Moore’s run on Swamp Thing, so I would love to see the character, along with his supernatural teammates, get the love they deserve on the big screen, and if there’s any one man who’s up to the task, it’s Guillermo Del Toro.
