Hammer recruits Jared Harris for The Quiet Ones

Jared Harris, whose Mad Men character Lane Pryce last night punched out Pete Campbell and snogged Joan Harris in what might have been the most triumphant ten minutes for any television character ever, has signed on for Horror Films’ The Quiet Ones, a horror thriller that will be the studio’s first movie since the Daniel Radcliffe-starring smash hit The Woman In Black.

With Harris’ big-screen career taking off, following roles in Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows and Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln biopic, he will play Professor Joseph Coupland, who uses his students in an attempt to create a poltergeist from negative human energy. While Woman In Black was a smidgen repetitive in its scares, it’s brilliant Hammer are seeking to resurrect the kind of supernatural horror movie which went out of fashion when the studio first went down in the late ’70s. The Quiet Ones sounds like it will fit right into that vein and hopefully bring a modernised Dr. Frankenstein vibe: Harris’ slightly haughty, academic air would be a terrific fit for the role. I’m still hoping for a Legend Of The Seven Golden Vampires remake, though.
