Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters may become a TV show

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters took us a bit by surprise in that it was actually fun. Most folks panned it, but those that enjoy some ridiculous action and tongue-in-cheek presentation can easily have fun with it. Evidently people overseas enjoy those things because the movie made a lot of money there and a sequel was instantly green lit. That sequel may be no more.

Reports are coming in that Paramount may be halting the film in favor of a TV series instead. The studio already had a screenplay and a director lined up, but it wouldn’t be too surprising for them to make the jump: the original didn’t do so well in the US and doesn’t have much of a following; both the leads are now much bigger stars than they were and probably don’t especially want to return; the kind of cheesy fun that the film is would actually work really well on TV.

It’s not clear yet if the TV show will mean the cancellation of the film, but if Paramount can’t get Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton back then starting from scratch is probably their best bet.

Would you watch the show?
