Hellboy 3 still isn’t happening

While Guillermo Del Toro has been inspired to at least get started on a third Hellboy film for awhile now, financial backing for the film has still always been up in the air, keeping the entire project in limbo. There have been rumblings that Hellboy 3 could find life at Legendary Pictures (since Del Toro is currently releasing Pacific Rim for them and they seem to love him right now), but that’s pretty much out the window now. While at a press junket for Pacific Rim, Del Toro being the cool guy he is, answered a few questions about Hellboy 3 to Shock Til You Drop:

I hate giving pieces about it, but last night, we were at dinner and Ron said, ‘I would be very happy to do Hellboy again, when are we doing Hellboy 3?’  Thomas [Tull] said, ‘I would love to see Hellboy 3.’  He didn’t say he would love to do it he just said he’d like to see it, but today, I’ll ask him.

All good in the neighborhood, right? Well, when founder of Legendary Pictures Thomas Tull was asked about the project himself he stated:

Seeing how we don’t own the rights to Hellboy, there may be lawyers that would get upset about that. But you know, in Guillermo’s world, maybe he can make that go away. I don’t know.

That’s a shame. It still means that Hellboy 3 is still not a thing yet. But I’m sure if Pacific Rim does well and doesn’t tank at the box office like early projections are predicting, then there’s a better chance for whatever Del Toro wants to do.
