By Like it or not, Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor are set to be two of the biggest movies of the summer, and they’re both laying some major groundwork for 2012’s Avengers film. As such, there shouldn’t be much surprise that Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, a common thread throughout all the Marvel films since Iron Man, will be appearing in both. Both roles will be small cameos, as in Iron Man, but it possibly reveals a little info on how Captain America ends. I’ve long believed that the film would end, either in a post credits stinger or otherwise, with Captain America waking up in 2012 with Fury muttering something about his Avengers Initiative. Unless his cameo will be set in World War 2 with the rest of the film, hinting at how old Fury really is, I think this is the most reasonable possibility.

Initially portrayed as a wholesome, gee-shucks kid that lied about his age to fight the Axis, the modern portrayal of wartime Bucky, retconned by the brilliant Ed Brubaker, showed that Captain America was the flashy morale-booster of the duo, while Bucky has a darker edge and was found to do a lot more wetwork and covert operations than his star-spangled partner. Comments from director Joe Johnston suggest that the Sebastian Stan’s Bucky will follow this path. He had this to say on Stan’s performance, “Sebastian brought something really interesting and slightly on the dark side and really compelling to watch… Sebastian has a dark, slightly quirky side to him — and that’s the case when he’s in character or not — and he brought that to this movie.” Steve Rogers and Bucky, in the film, were brought up together as orphans, and Bucky went off to war before Steve, who was still too sickly and frail pre-super solider treatment to fight. This sounds like a Bucky who could kick some serious ass.
