Hobbit “explosion” injures two.

I am of the mind that actors these days are complete wimps. Thanks to stuntmen and CGI, there are pretty much no risks taken by the vast majority of actors. The fact that they make millions of dollars but won’t take a punch or jump off a cliff to make that money angers me. So when I saw this headline pop up, I was so excited that maybe an actor took a chance and got burned in the process. Unfortunately, the story is much less interesting than that. Yesterday, an explosion occurred in one of the film’s production workshops. The official word is that the word “explosion” is a bit of an overstatement, because it implies greater damage. It affected a couple of people who were drilling a statue and received minor burns, such as burning of the nostril hairs (seriously). They went to the hospital anyway.

The Hobbit is a massive production, so it is very likely that this is not the last on-set injury we will see. Maybe the next one will be something exciting… like an actor removing a chunk of his head for the good of the production… or something. For films that totally did things right* check out this article from Cracked.

*Conceptually. I sure as hell do not condone the murder of actors. I simply think that actors should be roughed up a bit to help them get into their roles. It would add to the realism, and be beneficial for everyone involved.
