Hunger Games cat recast after author request

One of the greatest casting mistakes in the history of cinema will be rectified when The Hunger Games: Catching Fire arrives this month. Buttercup, the cat who was incorrectly portrayed by a black and white cat in The Hunger Games, will now be orange, like he was in the books. It was always a little odd they didn’t just get an orange cat, but director Francis Lawerence discussed “the Buttercup situation” with i09 and said that word came from on high (read: author Suzanne Collins) came down and the cat must be changed.

You know what that was actually, and I was happy to do it, that was a request from Nina the producer and Suzanne the author. That they thought the cat from the first movie was not the way he was described in the book.

Surprisingly that was the only change request that Collins made, meaning we’re probably going to be seeing a lot of fan service this time around. That’s great since the original movie did leave some gaping holes in the world building and also because more Hunger Games is just great in general.
