J.J. Abrams will direct the next Star Wars movie

Get ready for the damn world to explode. J.J. Abrams, the man who is currently revitalizing the Star Trek franchise, has been tapped to direct the next Star Wars movie (at the moment dubbed Star Wars 7). That’s right. The two biggest science fiction franchises, that nerds around the world love to compare, are now in the hands of one man.

The deal isn’t 100 percent confirmed yet, but Deadline, THR and The Wrap all have their ears to the ground and are pretty much guaranteeing it. You’ll remember that Abrams denied that he was taking the position in the past, but we’re guessing after every other director in the industry turned it down as well they came back at him with a stronger offer.

I can’t say I’m really upset with this. If the man has proven anything it’s that he knows how to handle a beloved and cherished franchise without pissing off the fan base. What do you guys think?
