Jack Reacher: Never Go Back gets an even shorter trailer

Possibly owing to the 24-hour news coverage of the Olympics, Paramount has released a new and improved (read: less to watch) spot for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. It’s basically a condensed, possibly less powerful version of the original theatrical trailer (which is what happens when you take two and a half minutes of material and try to convey the same ideas and emotions with one minute). The good news, is that even in the tiny viewing window of your phone, Tom Cruise can’t appear any more diminutive than he already is.

What this new and more Reachery spot does do, is convey even more definitively just how much of a badass Jack Reacher is. Surround him in a cage with four guys with guns while he’s unarmed? Jack Reacher literally laughs at shenanigans like this. Boom, one of you is dead. “Fellas?” Don’t you get the picture yet? You’re in a vehicle for an aging movie star as the ‘Certain Set of Skills’ type, and you just don’t fuck with these types! (Taken, Taken 2, Taken 3, Tooken, The Equalizer, Run All Night, John Wick, Jason Bourne, The GreyNon-Stop.)

Considering that he stars in the majority of these, they really should have hired Liam “The Neesons” Neeson: was he not available?
