Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina may join The Little Mermaid remake cast

0

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Jacob Tremblay (The Predator) and Awakwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) will be joining the voice cast for Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. This comes a week after musings that Melissa McCarthy would be starring as Ursula, meaning we’re getting quite the line-up of stars going for this latest adaptation.

Supposedly Tremblay would portray Flounder, Ariel’s fish friend, while Awkwafina would voice Scuttle, one of the seagull’s from the original. I’m not exactly sure how these non-human characters will look in a live-action film, but I can only hope it turns out better than Dumbo.

Some other details about the remake have come out, as well. Disney will be retaining all of the beloved tunes while adding some new material to flesh out this remake’s identity. Original composer Alan Menken will be joining forces with Lin-Manuel Miranda (famous for his work with Moana) to compose songs and co-write lyrics. Producers will include Marc Platt (Mary Poppins Returns), Lin-Manuel Miranda, Rob Marshall — who is also directing –, and John DeLuca. It seems everything is moving along at a nice pace. Now we just need a release date.
