James Gunn gives first look at Guardians 2 and announces Kurt Russel cast

While I personally am tiring a bit on the Marvel universe (note: this will last until the next awesome movie lands) I don’t think I could be any more excited for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Shooting has just begun and that means director James Gunn is letting the information flow, including this first picture and the news that Kurt Russel has been cast in the film.

He won’t reveal who the actor will be playing, but most folks are speculating it will be Star Lord’s father. Russell as Chris Pratt’s father? Yea, that’s perfect.

Gunn will confirm some other casting news, however. It seems that Vol.2  will be bringing another lesser known Marvel hero to the the forefront as sometimes team member Mantis will be joining in on the adventure, and played by Pom Klementieff. Mantis is… ummm… well… she’s confusing. She’s green and has antennae and has had a host of powers throughout her time and possibly was cloned and was kind of evil and can see into the future a bit and can speak with plants and some other things. There’s a lot to unpack there.

The most important thing about this reveal, however, is baby Groot. Looking at him sitting there holding onto Drax’s ear.
