Jessica Chastain out for Iron Man 3, Rebecca Hall in

A little while ago we reported that Jessica Chastain was in talks to star in the next Iron Man film as a female scientist. Speculation ran wild about who should would be playing and how big a role she would have, though it’s now been revealed the character would play a major role in creating Extremis (full details on what that is here). However she won’t be taking on the role after all.

On her Facebook page Chastain revealed that she just couldn’t get her schedule to work out and thus would not be available to play whatever role she would have played. She did say that she thought the team behind it would do an awesome job, so it doesn’t look like it was creative differences that led to her departure.

Who will be tackling this lady scientist then? Rebecca Hall, best known for her role in The Town, seems to be all but confirmed according to Variety. I’m not sure the two are all that alike, so it’s definitely a different casting direction, but what a great turn for Hall who would be breaking out in a big way with this role. Hall joins a cast already featuring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Guy Pierce.
