Johnny 5 won’t die, Tim Hill to direct Short Circuit

Not to long ago, Dimension Films acquired the rights to make a Short Circuit reboot. If you’re anything like me, you probably prayed to the god that gave Johnny 5 sentience through lighting that this would become one of many proposed remakes that never gains any kind of momentum and is forgotten. Well, things just went from bad to worse.

When Dimension originally proposed the remake, they had signed Paul Blart: Mall Cop director Steve Carr to head up the project. As if that wasn’t terrible enough, Deadline now reports that Dimension is in negotiations to replace Carr with Tim Hill, director of such gems like Alvin & The Chipmunks, Hop and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. Hill will supervise the script and collaborate with the original Short Circuit producer David Foster to get the ball rolling.

Dimension Films are on a winning streak of bad ideas huh? I’m sure their next genius decisions will be to allow Steve Guttenberg to reprise his role and paint a random white guy brown and have him give an incredibly racist performance. Oh Fisher Stevens … what the hell were you thinking?
