Although Disney or Marvel have neither confirmed nor denied this officially at this point, there have been some very strong rumors that Jon Favreau will not be returning for the Iron Man hat trick. The rumor is gaining steam, though, with comments from Favreau in an interview with MTV News where ius is exceptionally critical of the creative process at Marvel Studios. He even goes so far as to say, “The whole world…I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.” Ouch.

That said, the man still has a healthy relationship with Disney, with Magic Kingdom next on his schedule after Cowboys and Aliens, so there’s no telling if that won’t account for something. Personally, I think Iron Man 2 suffered quite a bit from studio interference-itis, and that the best results came from the first Iron Man, since Jon Favreau got enough room to work because no one was expecting him to revive the superhero genre completely.

UPDATE: This has been officially confirmed from Jon Favreau, via this Tweet.
